Tisanes

Herbals are not considered to be tea, and are instead named tisanes. These are infusions that are made from fruits and herbs, instead of the tea plant. There are numerous types of tisanes. Below are some of the more popular ones.

Rooibos (pronounced “roy-boss”), also referred to as red tea, comes from the dried leaves of the red bush tree in South Africa.

Rooibos is caffeine free and enriched with health benefits. Rooibos is rich in antioxidants, it can soothe headaches as well as indigestion and it can aid insomnia and hypertension.

Yerba Maté comes from a species of holly, which is found in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil. It has a high amount of caffeine, offering a great alternative to coffee. This tisane is becoming more popular as a result of the ever growing list of health benefits it offers, including: boosting metabolism, fighting headaches and aiding in the symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders.

Chamomile is made from the flower’s blossoms and is often used for relaxing muscles, relieving stomach cramps and alleviating stress.
