Rooibos is my new favourite herbal alternative to tea. At first I was thrown off by its flavour, as it has more of a citrus-like taste than tea itself, but now I absolutely love it. Rooibos (roy-boss), which comes from the African Red Bush, is rich in antioxidants, has low levels of tannin, has flavonoids, along with various minerals: copper, iron and potassium, calcium, fluoride, zinc, manganese, alpha- hydroxyl and magnesium. – Just to name a few. Helping alleviate the symptoms of allergies, digestive disorders, dermatological ailments, nervous tension along with its caffeine free properties make rooibos an amazing choice for health conscious individuals, and those just look for a delicious cup of tisane!
Rooibos can be found in many different flavoured varieties – from a wonderful apple flavoured, which I just picked up from Teaopia tonight (Apple Strudel Rooibos – SO GOOD!), to many chocolate Rooibos blends.
Give it a shot and try something that’s deliciously healthy!
Hi Lauren,
Thanks for the great info!
Have you heard of ‘green rooibos’? I’ve been hearing positive things, and was wondering if you could provide some insight!

I hadn’t even heard of green rooibos. Apparently it carries more of a malty flavour and isn’t fermented (whereas red rooibos is). This gives the tisane more antioxidants than its red counterpart, similar to green tea. Something indeed worth trying!

This is great information! Thank you! I have heard wonderful things about rooibos and have yet to try it! If I do, I will try the rooibos from Wisdom Natural Brands, the parent company of Wisdom of the Ancients. They offer one of the few pure unflavored varieties of rooibos available–plus, I trust that brand a whole bunch! By the way, I would like citrus flavor from the get-go! YUM!
